went back to my old hometown
and found a few things changed
now the laundrmat has wireless
so you can go online
while your socks come clean
and that girl I used to hang with
at the coffee shop that's no longer there
she doesn't smile anymore
and she dyed her golden hair

so went back to my parents house
climbed the stairs up to my old bedroom
the wallpaper was different
and it was turned into a living room
threw myself down on the guest bed
and yelled to let things out
"What happened to the small town
where nothin ever changes
and you just want to get away?
I finally came back here
to find it went away when I left..."

so I walked down to the parlor
found the old piano was still there
the same keys were out of tune
and I hammered the differences away
'cause sure the town was changing
but then again so am I
so I wrote down this song
as a last good bye
to that small town that never changes
